DID SOMEONE SAY HALLOWEEN? Cuz the wings at the GLOBE ARE SPOOOOKY!

Sad Wings :(

Sad Wings 😦

The Wing Diary is not an automatic A institution. We are not parents, we do not need to show unconditional love at the expense of honesty. The truth is that some wings are better than others. Some wings are cut out for Varsity and some should be benched for eternity. The “buffalo” wings at the Globe are such wings. Globe, your wings would not have even made the freshman team, sadly, not even the intramural. Why? Because they were soggy, and weirdly slimy almost goopy. Your “Buffalo” sauce had the same amount of heat as 1000 Islands Dressing. And lastly, and not to be totally high school, BUT- they looked weird. Something was off. Long story short, our waitress was great, and so was your blue cheese, but your wings made me want to cry.

INTERMISSION TAVERN, BOSTON, MA

image1Intermission. Tavern. Hell. YES.

After a night of great music and a failed über, a friend and I found ourselves outside of Intermission Tavern (near the Wang Theater). I was wondering why the name popped out at me, and then I remembered it was on our Wing Radar. I was a bit hesitant to go in because it looked like they were wrapping up, but we decided to give a go. GOOD CHOICE. Not only did they happily serve us a round, the cook kept the kitchen open a few minutes late just so we could grab some wings. SO HOSPITABLE! I was beyond excited as it was my last meal prior to starting the bi-annual juice cleanse :(.

When the wings came a few things popped out, shit they are breaded! Wow they are colorful! Oh my god they smell good. AND. GOOD. THEY. WERE. They were incredible!! I am not a huge fan of a breaded wing but these were perfectly crispy and saucy. AND THE SAUCE… Maybe the best I have had. These were incredible wings, made with care. I will give these wings and the entire experience 9.5. I WILL BE BACK SOON!! I think Mili will love these wings!!!!!

Clearly Clery’s

Quality control is important. Milicent and I have been avid supporters of Buff’s in Newton since our first order of 20 (and side of small nachos, chili on the side). But we realized we need to make sure what we believe to be the best, is in fact the best. So we are back at it, trying new wing destinations, with the hopes of finding a batch of wings in each neck of the woods that can meet the great 3. If you’ve forgotten, or never met us, the 3 stands for: Crisp factor, sauce factor (good heat and vinegar ratios), quality factor (the entire experience: is the blue cheese off the charts? Are there celery, carrots? Too fatty??) Because Milicent lives in the South End, we needed somewhere near her..it was a toss up between trying Anchovies and Clery’s… for this wingsesh we chose Clery’s.

For starters, we had a blond waitress who absolutely ruled. She was a delight, bringing us pumpkin beer with great haste and extreme fall cheer. We ordered our wings hot and crispy and with moderate expectations, we waited.

The wing’s arrived and they were aesthetically 10’s. Seriously, they were the supermodel equivalent of wings. Not too fatty, defined and crisp, steaming and saucy. Blue cheese check, celery check, carrots check, surplus of napkins-bonus! It was all coming together.

The first bite was….. Well, it reminded me of why we do this. So frequently wings are a menu’s afterthought, this is not the case at Clery’s. They were SO CRRRRISPYYYYY, and the sauce, TANGY AND AWESOME. Perhaps, a bit buttery… but it is getting cold out….. These were great wings. You could feel them on your lips, and the sauce commanded attention from my fork (yeah I did it, I’ve used a straw sometimes too. Whatever). Mili agreed that these were great wings and worth a place on our wing map. Clery’s, its gonna be a long winter and we will be back. Please stay so saucy.
